“Hoc praedium restauratum fuit A.D. 1802”: “this holding was
restored in the year 1802” – as is written on the façade of Villa
Boscarello, with its two levels of four brick arches.
The building, dating back to the XVII century, was probably a place
where travellers on their way to Montalceto (a nearby spring) used to stop
over.
Boscarello stands on a hill from where you have views over typical
Tuscan countryside and several hill-top towns and villages such as Siena,
Montalcino, Mount Amiata, Radicofani, the cathedral of St. Anna in
Camprena, Montisi, Trequanda, the castle of Gallico and Serre di Rapolano.
The holding was restored between 1995 and 2000 and converted into a
villa, furnished with family antiques, characteristically decorated with
coffered and cane-mesh ceilings typical of the “old Tuscan” ambience.
In the villa there are 8 double large bedrooms (all with bathroom,
telephone and minibar), dining room, living room with travertine fireplace
and reading room, a well equipped kitchen, as well as a panoramic terrace and two covered porches.
A large garden surrounds the villa and frames the pool in beautiful
surroundings.
Boscarello, located 35 km. south of Siena, in the heart of the
“Crete” (the clay-region) belongs to the large estate of “ La Selva” -
which spans 212 ha. This ancient property belongs to the noble and famous
Socini family, descending from Sozzo (XIV century), whose great-
grandchildren changed the surname into Sozzino, then Sozzini and finally
into Socini, rich bankers, notaries and theologians (Lelio and Fausto - XVI
and XVII century).
Today, “La Selva” belongs to the grandson of Maria Socini, Duccio who, with his wife Daniela,
undertook the restoration of the buildings and personally runs the farming
and the accommodation facilities.
Situated in the garden, near the main villa, there is an old barn
completely renovated to create a comfortable apartment for four people. The
apartment consists of a living room with fireplace and kitchen corner, two
double bedded rooms and two bathrooms with bath. (This apartment is only
rented together with the main villa).
The main produce of the farm is the excellent organic extra virgin
olive oil as well as very rare “white truffle” that grow in the area.
To reach us, the nearest airport is “Firenze-Peretola” (about one and a half hours drive)
or alternatively, Pisa airport (only about two hours away) and Rome (two
and a half hours drive). Then the Motorway is taken ‘Austostrada del Sole
(A1)’, exit “Val di
Chiana”(about 22 Km. away from the villa).
Boscarello is a perfect starting point to visit all the most famous
artistic and historical towns of Central Tuscany (Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Cortona and many
others); the sea is only 130 km. away (Castiglion della Pescaia and a
little further on Punta Ala) and the interesting and attractive wine
regions of the Chianti Classico, Brunello and Nobile, are half an hour’s
drive away.
